The British classic Marmite sparked a social media frenzy after a TikTok user claimed many have been eating it wrong.
TikTok user own Amy Sheppard has whipped up a storm among Marmite lovers by declaring: “You have got to stop eating raw Marmite.”
Her video teased viewers with: “This is going to change your Sunday morning Marmite toast… Forever,” and hinted it could “blow your mind”. She even suggested her method might win over those who typically turn their noses up at Marmite.
Sharing her innovative approach named ‘grilled Marmite’ or ‘baked Marmite’, Amy shows off her technique, starting with grilling one side of two slices of bread.
She then spreads butter and slathers a “nice, thick layer of Marmite” more than usual, as per her recommendation onto the ungrilled side. The bread is grilled once more, with the Marmite side facing up until it turns “golden brown, and crisp and bubbly”.
Expounding on the effect of this preparation, she explains: “When you grill it, it doesn’t look much different, does it? But the Marmite goes really sticky and gooey, and has this kind-of chewy, caramelised flavour to it. It’s so good.”
Marmite fans and culinary explorers have been making a buzz in the comments section after a food tip was shared online. One keen fan exclaimed: “I eat Marmite every day for brekky. Going to try this.”
Meanwhile, another eager individual declared: “[Be right back], heading to the kitchen to try this immediately.”
Amy’s hack has not only sparked enthusiasm but also led others to share their preferred Marmite pairings, spanning from peanut butter and crispy bacon to indulgent Marmite cheese toastie experiences.
A suggestion came forth: “Try poached eggs on Marmite on toast…” while an adventurous cooking tip was put forward by someone else: “Try Marmite on your steak. Cook one side, turn it over then spread it on the cooked side and then leave it to rest as normal mmmm.”
