A man’s chilling confession on a live television interview has sparked an ethics war in Italy.

Lorenzo Carbone, 50, was interviewed outside of his home in Spezzano di Fiorano by Pomeriggio5 when he suddenly confessed to killing his elderly mother.

Visibly distressed, he told reporter Fabio Giuffrida: ‘I strangled her, I don’t know why I did it. Every now and then she made me angry as she kept repeating herself.’

His mum Loretta Levrini, 80 – who suffered from dementia – was found dead by her daughter this weekend.

The camera crew allegedly found Carbone outside of his home. After he confessed, they called the police – then aired his confession as an ‘exclusive’ story.

Gaia Tortora, the deputy director of the TV channel TG La7, slammed the decision, writing: ‘This is not our job. Tearing up the code of ethics, we are hitting rock bottom.’

The show’s presenter, Myrta Merlino, defended airing the interview. She said: ‘I received a call from the correspondent a few minutes before going live.

‘I had little time to decide. I only care about one thing: that it doesn’t damage the investigation. The man was wanted. The police were called and authorised me to broadcast the images of the interview.’

Carbone was arrested and taken into custody after the ordeal.

He told the reporter: ‘I couldn’t stand it any longer, I couldn’t manage her. I don’t know why I did it.’

Last year, a disturbing 999 call was released, sharing the moment a murderer confessed to killing a man four days after his death.

Anne-Marie Burrowes, 52, killed Paul Knowles, 56, at his home in Peterborough, on October 26 2023.

She did this by punching him in the face and shoving a sock down his throat.

Four days later she rang the police telling them she had killed a man but she did not reveal who this was or where it happened.

But on November 19 she called the police again and she let them know some more details.

In the 999 call, she can be heard saying that she ‘killed him’ and she did not know for certain whether she killed Paul because everybody was ‘tripping’.

She was later jailed for his murder.
