Marks & Spencer’s Gastropub dine-in deal is a firm favourite with shoppers, with the ready meals praised as ‘restaurant quality’ and ‘doing a better job than some local pubs’.
For £15 you get a main and a side dish, plus a starter or dessert for two people, and there are numerous foodie combinations to choose from.
But the high street retailer has just unveiled a major change to its core selection, and fans are loving the ‘sensational’ new options.
To celebrate 20 years of its Gastropub range, M&S has teamed up with celebrity chef Tom Kerridge to launch several new and exclusive dishes for the deal.
The new line-up includes creamy pork liver, belly and bacon pāté, two deep filled all-butter pastry pies, plus two sweet treats.
These items are available in M&S Foodhalls and to buy via Ocado online now.
Speaking about the partnership, Tom said: ‘I’ve been lucky enough to travel the length and breadth of the UK over the last two years in my Farm to Foodhall adverts, meeting M&S’ incredible farmers and suppliers. I’ve been so inspired by the innovation and quality of what they’re producing, I just knew I wanted to create something for M&S customers using all these little gems from around the Foodhall.
‘The gastropub kitchen is my heartland and these new dishes take inspiration from the flavours from my pubs — comforting classics with modern twists, top notch ingredients and layers of flavour. All with the added beauty of being able to enjoy them from the comfort of your own home!’
Tom’s new Gastropub meals have been two years in the making, with the legendary chef working closely with the M&S team and suppliers, trying over 160 different pie recipes before picking his final favourites.
There’s the British Beef Pie made with beef mince and shin, slow cooked in a rich gravy, encased in pastry and topped with crispy Beef scratchings (main for 1, £7), and the British Chicken Curry Pie featuring spiced oven roasted British chicken in a creamy spiced sauce, blended with toasted coconut and encased in a pastry crust, topped with crispy British chicken scratchings (main for 1, £7).
As well as the pies, there’s British Beef Cheeks slow cooked in a rich red wine sauce, with herby dumplings and star anise glazed carrots (main for 2, £12), Lentil Cottage Pie (main for 1, £6) and Slow Cooked Lamb marinated in warm aromatic spices in a rich harissa, apricot and chickpea sauce (main for 2, £12).
Desserts include Treacle Tart (serves 2, £5) or Molten Cookie Dough (serves 2, £5.25), and there’s a starter of Pork Pāté for two, made with pork liver, pork belly & bacon with roasted mushrooms, and green peppercorns, topped with a roast chicken stock glaze (£6.50).
If this weren’t enough, the entire Gastropub range is also getting a glow-up, with 25 recipe revamps and more than 20 new additions.
Marie Ford, Product Development Manager at M&S Food added: ‘This is a very exciting time for Gastropub. Not only are we turning 20 but we’ve also brought on board Tom Kerridge to create completely delicious new dishes to join the menu.
‘Gastropub was our first restaurant-quality range so it feels fitting that it’s become Tom’s first retail collaboration too. The new and revamped recipes in our Gastropub range really are market-leading. If you had the time, you could make them at home using the same ingredients from our Foodhalls, from our West Country Brue Valley Butter and Cornish Cove Cheddar, to wines from our shop shelves. But we know that often isn’t the reality, so instead here are our favourite, comforting, convenient classics, from our kitchen to yours — with a little help from our favourite chef.’
This comes after M&S recently launched a brand new chip shop deal for just £10.
For this price shoppers get one main and two sides for two people, meaning it’s the perfect date night alternative to spending a small fortune on ordering in.
As with any traditional chippy, there’s a choice of main, including fishcake, cod, haddock, and scampi.
And, if you’re feeling rebellious, southern fried tenders and a deep-filled steak puff pastry pie are also on the menu – though there’s no saveloy to speak of.
The sides firmly cover all potato-shaped bases, including frites, chunky chips, buttery mashed potato and waffle fries.
There’s also ample opportunity to get your greens in too, and of course, the classic mushy peas also feature.
But if you’re tempted by this, you’ll need to be quick as the deal is only available for a limited time.
