A Stirling mum-of-two was left celebrating after she claimed a top beauty pageant title in India.

Rajwinder Johal, from Cornton, won International Glam Icon Season 6 as well as the International Top Model award at the plush awards bash held in Mumbai earlier this month.

Rajwinder, known locally in Stirling as Raj, earlier this year took on the Haut Monde Mrs India Worldwide pageant – designed for married Indian women across the world – where she was a finalist.

Raj, 41, has two teenage children and runs her own business in Stirling – Beauty Box, in the city’s King Street.

Speaking on her recent success, Raj said: “A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported me on this incredible journey. I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Glam Icon team for providing me with the opportunity to showcase my abilities.

“Thank you for giving me the chance to prove myself.”

Originally, from India, Raj arrived in Scotland 20 years ago and went on to marry her English husband as part of an arranged marriage.

Speaking to the Observer previously, Raj said: “I I came to Scotland in 2004 – that was the biggest shock to my system. I couldn’t speak English, I didn’t know my husband and didn’t know his family.

“We stayed with his family and gradually I stood on my feet.

“Despite all of the difficulties and problems, I managed to build my business in Stirling.

“I’m a self-made woman who wants to inspire other women like me. They can achieve anything they want in their life.”
