Tony Docherty haș already seen Oluwaseun Adewumi shine but admitted he is up at Dundee to be educated on the other side of the game.
Burnley signed the Austrian under-21 cap from Floridsdorfer on transfer deadline day and immediately sent him up to Dens Park on-loan. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder will be up in Scotland until January in the first instance. Docherty knows it is his job to get him more accustomed to the British game, while also bringing out his unquestionable ability. Docherty said: “He’s been excellent, a breath of fresh air.
“He did well off the bench at Ross County and then on Saturday (against Rangers) he was unfortunate to pick up an injury but you could see real threat in possession. He’s only 19 years old so he’s a player we need to try to educate He said to me Saturday at Rangers was the biggest game he’s played in so he will benefit from that experience. Seun was very positive and I think if he gets more opportunities like that he’ll improve.
“That was a game where he had to learn both sides of the games, being in defensive situations as well as attacking. You could see he really lights the place up in possession and takes people on one-v-one.”
Dundee also have French winger Julien Vetro on-loan from Burnley, in another deal which is part of their on-going strategic partnership. Vetro, who was signed from French fallen giants Bordeaux by the Clarets in the summer, caught Docherty’s eye in Monday’s reserve cup derby defeat against Dundee United. He admitted: “I was really impressed with Julien Vetro as well for the reserves on Monday as well. He played as a left wing-back in the first half, second half as a right winger. I thought he equipped himself well over the 90 minutes and it’s good to have real options in those positions.”
Docherty reckons he now has genuine quality in the final third that will excite the Dundee fans. The likes of Scott Tiffoney, Seb Palmer-Houlden and Charlie Reilly all have the quality to take players on and eliminate defenders.
The Dens manager stated: “It’s refreshing to have young, positive players who want to get at defenders. I know the Dundee fans like that and it’s something I’m trying to bring to the fore. We have a number of players like that with these two as well as Scott Tiffoney, Seb Palmer-Houlden and Charlie Reilly.”
