A Place in the Sun presenter Ben Hillman was left surprised during Thursday’s episode when a buyer made an unexpected decision.
In the Channel 4 show rerun, property guru Ben Hillman took house-hunter Tara around several potential homes in Crete.
Tara was joined by her friend Ali to help choose the perfect spot for her family with a budget of £90,000.
After viewing all the options, Tara admitted she had two properties in mind. One particular home caught her eye, priced at £103,448, although it required some renovation, reports the Mirror.
Considering the necessary improvements, Tara proposed a bold offer of £80,000 to Ben at the episode’s conclusion.
Ben was visibly shocked by her low starting bid, expressing his disbelief with a grimace and a gasp.
He responded: “I know completely where you stand, I’m not confident, I’m going to be honest. I’m not confident.”
Nevertheless, he relayed Tara’s offer to the estate agent. The outcome was disappointing, as Ben explained: “Sadly, not. Now, the vendors are adamant that it is their bottom line. They have dropped it twice now to get it sold.”
Ali expressed her surprise, asking: “So they won’t negotiate at all?”
With no room for negotiation, Tara concluded the property was beyond her budget, saying: “It’s such a shame.”
Tara, eyeing another property that captivated her and with a price tag of £94,828, decided to go for it by placing an initial offer of £75,000.
Ben echoed her aggressive strategy, remarking: “You are playing hardball today, I love it!”.
Following negotiations and conversations with the real estate agent about necessary home improvements justifying the low bid, Ben’s confidence waned.
Upon receiving feedback, he relayed to Tara: “Again, it’s a no sorry. They would accept just under £86,000. But he has the feeling they’d come down to around £85,000.”
Despite the setback, Tara increased her bid to £78,000, her final limit, which Ben confirmed would be passed on, albeit with dim prospects.
By the programme’s conclusion, viewers were informed by Ben that Tara remained in discussions with the estate agent and was planning to return with her two children.
