A Dumfriesshire town is gearing up for an autumn economic boost this weekend thanks to walkers keen to try out everything from free and easy rambles to more taxing long-distance trails.

The Moffat Walking Weekend was first held in 2021 and has gone from strength to strength with a bumper line-up of family-friendly adventures and treks around town also in the mix from today until Sunday.

Katherine Clemmens, secretary of organisers, Walk Moffat, said: “This year we are thrilled to report that some walks are completely sold out but we have a few tickets for tomorrow’s The Beef Tub Challenge, The Peak of the Trails and The Birdwatching Walk.

“Also for Sunday’s Hike up the Grey Mare’s Tail, The Silver Jubilee Walk, The Merlin Trail and The Wildlife Wander.”

Tickets are still available on the website www.walkmoffat.co.uk.

As well as the beauty of Moffat’s landscapes, the themed walks embrace Moffat’s history and Dark Skies Town status and Katherine said: “We’re very proud of our partnerships with Mostly Ghostly, Moffat Museum, and the Moffat Observatory.

“These walks add richness and texture to our event and show our visitors a different side of Moffat.”
