A huge blaze has broken out at an Aberdeen restaurant as firefighters rush to tackle the flames.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) received several calls reporting thick smoke in the city centre before getting the report of a well-established inferno at Vovem on Union Street at 11.46am this morning.

Six fire engines and a height appliance are currently battling the towering blaze that took over the popular restaurant. There are no reports of casualties at this time.

Shocking images show huge flames dominating the building as huge clouds of thick smoke billow into the sky.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 11.46am on Thursday, September 26 to reports of a commercial building fire in Union Street, Aberdeen.

“Operations Control immediately mobilised six appliances and other specialist resources to the scene where firefighters found Vovem Restaurant to be well alight. Crews are currently on scene as they work to make the area safe. No casualties have been reported.”

Police Scotland has been approached for comment.
