Married at First Sight UK participant Adam was put on the spot during Thursday’s episode as the couples faced their first commitment ceremony on E4.

As part of the episode, newlyweds Polly and Adam sat down to discuss their progress as a couple. The atmosphere got charged when Polly expressed fears that her husband does not find her attractive.

Adam explained his position, saying: “If I’m affectionate with her and cuddly and kissy with her. I don’t want to give her the wrong idea because I don’t want to hurt her.”

Expert on the show, Paul Brunson, challenged Adam: “But you’re married and you’ve had sex?”

His questioning led to an audible astonished reaction from fellow contestants, reports OK!.

In his defense, Adam told Paul that sleeping with his wife felt like the right thing to do at the time.

Paul, however, rebutted firmly: “That’s nonsense, my man! It’s like you want to swim in the pool but you don’t want to get wet.”

Co-expert Mel Schilling then turned the focus to Polly for her take on becoming intimate and then experiencing distance.

Polly addressed her concerns candidly, saying, “I mean it’s not ideal because I think when I’m in a relationship I am very sexually driven towards someone, that’s just natural isn’t it?

“I haven’t pushed that because I’m not having the rejection of someone again.”

She went on to express she was holding back to avoid rejection, drawing from a past experience where she felt deeply spurned.

Through tears, she confided in the experts: “I’m not giving anything to anyone. I’m not forcing it, if I’ve got to force it then it’s not there. I shouldn’t have to tell him to do something, he should want to do it and he’s not.”

Adam was questioned about his hesitations, as he admitted: “I’m not perfect, but I am perfect for someone so I want someone who is perfect for me.”

His remark, however, didn’t sit well with the experts, as Mel pointed out that the woman he’s married to on the show is remarkable.

Describing Polly as an attractive woman, Adam disclosed that he feels something is lacking.

In their session, he acknowledged his reluctance to open up over his fear of getting hurt.

Mel responded: “If you listen to what Polly’s saying, she’s saying that too.”

Despite the intense emotions during their couch session, they both agreed to stay another week to work on their marriage.

Married at First continues Mondays – Thursdays on E4 from 9pm.
