A man who today admitted murdering a woman earlier this year was previously convicted for murdering a taxi driver in 1998.

Steven Sansom, 45, appeared at the Old Bailey where he pleaded guilty to killing Sarah Mayhew, 38.

Parts of her body were found scattered in Rowdon Fields in New Addington, Croydon, on April 2.

He has also admitted to perverting the course of justice by dismembering Sarah’s corpse, disposing of it in multiple locations, and cleaning up the crime scene.

Sansom faces a further charge of preventing the lawful and decent burial of a body and three counts of making indecent images of a child.

Sansom was previously convicted in 1999 for the murder of a cab driver, the Old Bailey heard.

He stabbed Terrence Boyle in the throat and neck before escaping with £25 on Christmas Eve 1998.

Sansom knifed Terrence as he pulled up in his car, inflicting a 12cm slash to the neck. The dad-of-five staggered into a flat doorway but collapsed and died shortly afterwards.

Sansom, then of Applegarth, New Addington, admitted robbery and murder at the Old Bailey in May 1999.

He was released from that life sentenced in December 2019.

Sansom, of Burnell Road, Sutton, south-west London, appeared by video-link from HMP Belmarsh.

He denied three counts of possessing indecent images of children, which judge Mark Lucraft KC said would lie on file.

Police say the indecent image charges are ‘unconnected with the murder investigation at this stage’.

Gemma Watts, 49, of Featherbed Lane, New Addington, is also charged with murdering Ms Mayhew and perverting the course of justice. She was not asked to enter pleas when she appeared from HMP Bronzefield.
