WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been indicted in a federal corruption investigation. Once seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party, the former NYPD Captain is alleged to have conspired with a foreign government to receive donations. The mayor of the nation’s largest city the first in its history to face federal charges in office.

Adams was charged with five federal criminal charges of bribery, fraud, and soliciting illegal foreign campaign contributions connected to Turkey. US Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams, who is bringing the charges, told reporters he is not focused on partisan politics but on right and wrong.

Federal agents searched Adams’ official residence early Thursday morning, the same residence where Adams held his own press conference hours later maintaining his innocence. Throughout the press conference, the embattled mayor often had a smile on his face, seeming upbeat while he was surrounded by supporters vowing to back him. The mayor said he is being unjustly targeted by the federal government and will not resign as he believes the charges are based on lies.
