King Charles seems to have slighted Prince Harry in a recent speech, signalling the monarch’s increasingly strained relationship with his youngest son.
In a tribute marking the 25th anniversary of the Senedd, the King repeatedly praised Prince William but failed to even mention Prince Harry, despite the Duke of Sussex’s ongoing philanthropic efforts and international recognition for his Invictus Games initiative.
The drama unfolded after Charles praised William in an address in Cardiff earlier this year, reports The Mirror .
The King stated: “It has given me great pleasure to see my son’s relationship with this special land continue, including returning only this week to Anglesey – Ynys Mon – a place which I know means so much to him.”
The visit to Cardiff seemed to signify Charles’ strengthening bond for William and his affinity for Wales. Since the trip was timed shortly after Harry released a statement on the upcoming Winter Invictus Games in Vancouver, many speculated that the monarch was sending a cold message to his youngest son.
Despite the slight from his father, Harry appears eager for the selection of Team UK for the first-ever Winter Invictus Games, saying: “These games present an incredible opportunity for our courageous service personnel and veterans to demonstrate their skills in new challenges like alpine skiing, snowboarding, and skeleton, as well as providing a truly memorable experience for their families.”
Harry’s initiative moves forward while he faces legal action regarding his admission of drug use in his controversial memoir, Spare.
The Duke of Sussex admitted to using marijuana, cocaine and psychedelic mushrooms, which prompted a lawsuit from the conservative think tank Heritage Foundation.
The suit targeted Harry’s US visa application, demanding the Government release records to determine whether his substance use was disclosed.
The DC-based group argued that US law “generally renders such a person inadmissible for entry” to the country.
US visa applications specifically ask the individual to declare current and past drug use, which can have a detrimental impact on the progress of the application. While immigration officials use discretion when approving visas, regular drug use can lead to rejections.
However, US judge Carl Nichols has ruled that Harry’s application will remain sealed .
The judge ruled on Monday that “the public does not have a strong interest in disclosure of the duke’s immigration records,” adding “Like any foreign national, the duke has a legitimate privacy interest in his immigration status.”
