St Mirren star Shaun Rooney has been suspended over an alleged incident in Glasgow city centre.
The Buddies say they have taken action on their player on a precautionary basis after the 28-year-old disclosed his involvement in an alleged incident that is said to have taken place last week.
The former St Johnstone and Inverness Caledonian Thistle ace returned to Scotland in the summer after spending time at Fleetwood Town in England – where he played under manager, former Celtic captain Scott Brown.
The Scot has made ten appearances for the Paisley side this season, and netted on his debut in the Europa Conference League qualifier against Icelandic cracks Valur.
Rooney scored two cup winning goals at St Johnstone completed a historic double, sealing the Scottish Cup and League Cup in the 2020/21 season.
The Scottish Premiership club released a shock statement this evening.
Officials at the Paisley Saints will conduct a full investigation into the incident, and say they will be making no further comment during their probe.
A statement released on Thursday from St Mirren said: “St Mirren Football Club has suspended Shaun Rooney today, on a precautionary basis, after he disclosed to the club his involvement in an alleged incident in Glasgow City Centre last week.
“The club will now undertake a full investigation into this incident and will make no further comment during this process.”
