Key defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is a major injury doubt for Celtic’s upcoming Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers revealed that the the USA international will miss Scottish Premiership clash with St Johnstone on Saturday – the second he has been absent from since limping off in the Champions League rout of Slovan Bratislava. But it’s a major step up Europe’s elite competition for the Hoops in the coming week as they travel to Germany to face the Bundesliga heavyweights – and Rodgers couldn’t offer any guarantees over Carter-Vickers fitness.

Speaking ahead of the clash with the Perth Saints, Rodgers said: “He will miss tomorrow. He has got a pain on his big toe at the joint there, so we just need to look at that for every game. He has been playing with it for a little while but we have got to try and manage it because he was in pain during the Bratislava game. Hopefully it will settle down quite quickly and it will settle down for Tuesday.”

Pressed on the likelihood of the defender being ready for the clash at the Westfalenstadion, Rodgers said: ‘It’s difficult to tell. The focus is on this game and we will see where we are Sunday/Monday.”
