Joe Pryce has challenged his Glencairn stars to make club history in Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie at Cowdenbeath.

Pryce knows their Lowland League hosts are favourites at Central Park.

But the gaffer insists his West of Scotland Premier League title challengers won’t be suffering from an inferiority complex in their first-ever match in the competition beyond the preliminary rounds.

Cowdenbeath were an SPFL club until recent years, and Pryce says the Fifers have a rich history, but he’s looking to cause an upset.

Pryce said: “It’s a great occasion for the club to be in the first round of the Scottish Cup away to a club with the history of Cowdenbeath.

“We’re looking to go there and enjoy it, but we’re also looking to leave a mark.

“We know it’s going to be difficult, Cowdenbeath are obviously going to be the big favourites against us, so we’ve just got to go there and give it our best shot – and we’ll certainly do that.

“We’ll prepare properly all week and we’ll be ready, that’s for sure.

“People say we’ve got nothing to lose, but we’ve got a cup tie to lose, the same as Cowdenbeath.

“We’ll leave absolutely nothing out there.

“We’ll give it everything we have to try and get the club through to the second round of the cup.

“It’s a game we’re really looking forward to, it’s going to be a great occasion, and we just hope we can do the club proud on Saturday.”

Glencairn have won the Scottish Junior Cup four times, so Pryce wouldn’t be drawn over whether this is the biggest game in the club’s history, as they embark on a senior Scottish Cup first round tie for the first time ever.

But he said: “Certainly in recent years, and in my time here, it’s the biggest game.

“It’s a huge game for us, playing against Cowdenbeath.

“I know they’re not a senior side any more, but they’re still classed as that, and away from home it’s going to be a really tough game.

“I’m hoping we can patch a few of the lads up.

“A few of them took knocks on Saturday and we only had two substitutes available on Saturday, really, so we’re hoping we can go there fully-loaded – we’ll need to, in order to get a result.

“Getting through to the next round would mean everything.

“Just getting to this stage meant everything – that was the big aim for the club this season.

“We’ve managed to do that, but now we’re here, let’s see if we can take that next step.”
