The judge for the first digital image competition of the season at Motherwell Photographic Society was Susan Spence from Eastwood Photographic Society.
Susan is a new qualified judge and this was her first time judging a competition.
There were 29 digital images in the competition. Susan gave feedback on each image and explained how she thought each one could be improved.
She commented on the composition, light, sharpness, clarity and contrast of the images before awarding each a score out of 20.
Her top image of the evening, scoring 20 out of 20, was Permission to Land by Linda Greenhill.
The Jersey Pullers by Dominic Smith was second with 19 points. In joint third place, with 18 points, was Coo in the Park by Ashley Hanlon, Puffins by Rodger Shearer and Suilven from Loch Druim also by Rodger Shearer.
Club Vice-President Rodger Shearer thanked the members for their submissions. Rodger thanked Susan for taking the time to judge our images and for providing critique without criticism.
At the next meeting on Thursday, October 3, the guest will be Ronnie McInnes Technician, Multidisciplinary Artist and Photographer from West Lothian College.
Ronnie will be giving a practical demonstration of lighting set-ups for photography. Members should bring their cameras along on the night. Rodger Shearer will also be giving a tutorial on “Lightroom”.
Motherwell Photographic Society meets on a Thursday evening at 7.30pm in Holytown Community Centre.
As always, anyone with an interest in photography, no matter your level, is welcome to attend.
The annual membership fee is £30. There is a £2 weekly fee payable for all meetings in the community centre, which includes tea/coffee and biscuits.
