A woman was left gobsmacked after being handed a cash gift card while shopping for baby products recently – it comes as hundreds of mums found a sweet way to help one another out.
Being a parent can be rewarding, but there is not doubt it is hard work – and often comes with lots of sacrifices. A heartwarming trend has been going viral on TikTok recently showing people putting a present inside baby products to help parents out.
A video went viral – raking in over four million views – which showed an abandoned $20 (£14.91) sparkly clutch bag in the nappies aisle of a Target store in the US. What looked like a misplace item is the gesture of a mum who gave up what she wanted, and picked up products for her child instead.
It prompted a trend called “she deserved the purse” – now parents have been spotted putting money and gift cards inside baby formula, boxes of nappies, or handing them directly to mums and dads they see picking up baby products in supermarkets.
Content creator and mum Danielle, known as @deemarie on TikTok, left one mum stunned after handing her a $100 (£74.61) gift card recently.
Danielle, 27, said her “heart was filled so much” when a mum hugged her tight after being treated with a gift card which said ‘thank you’ on the front. Danielle explained how she made the woman’s day in a TikTok recently.
Speaking about why she decided to help the mum out, Danielle said: “Before doing social media full time, I worked in social services as a child support enforcement agent and I saw a lot of families that went without every single day.
“I always told myself that if I was in the position to help a family in need I do it, so here we are doing the purse challenge.”
Danielle showed herself going into a Walmart store on Monday morning (September 23) with her daughter. The mum spotted a woman carrying a card seat and decided after she purchased a gift card, she would find her in the store.
She went up to the woman and said: “Hi, I’m so sorry to both you. I’d just like to talk to you, if I can. I’m going around giving out gift cards to mums and I would love to give you a gift card to you if I could.”
The stunned shopper responded: “Seriously?” Danielle added: “Hopefully you’ve got something for yourself too, but thank you for being an amazing mum.”
The gobsmacked mum added: “Can I give you a hug? Thank you, have a good day.” Danielle claimed she “could not have picked someone better” to give the gift card to. “She was so grateful,” she added.
People rushed to comment on the video and applaud the act. “Danielle you are the sweetest,” said one.
Another wrote: “As a child that always saw my mum putting things back, I promised her to become successful same as my brother did. I love this trend so much.”
One other added: “This! way better than leaving it something to be stolen or thrown away by the store!”
