PRINCETON, W.Va. -A new collaborative group focused on connecting special needs people and their families to more community resources rolled out their inaugural community event.

Founders of the Special Needs Collaborative say the group was formed based on a need to make a positive change in the special needs community.

The group was established only a few months ago by local families and organizations that wanted to be a hub for others to reach out for resources and fellowship.

Despite the rain, those families and organizations held their first community event at Dick Copeland Town Square on Mercer Street in Princeton.

“We wanted this to be a place where they could have all these organizations in one spot, ask questions, find out what’s in our community already in existence, and maybe just connect with each other, other moms, other dads or the grandparents that have a child with a disability. We really need that feeling of community and this is how we do it,” said Alysha Crawford, Co-founder of Special Needs Collaborative.

The Collaborative is now focusing on organizing another event set for October.
