One Strictly Come Dancing celebrity will be in jeopardy this weekend as BBC audiences prepare to witness the first elimination of the series.
The Friday segment of It Takes Two saw host Fleur East engage with three guests about expectations for the upcoming live performance.
During the discussion about footballer Paul Merson, Matt Richardson did not shy away from expressing his opinions candidly.
This Saturday will see Paul attempting a Salsa with his dance pro partner, with aims to top their opening week score of 17.
Fleur provided fans with an insider look at Paul’s practice sessions, noting his intent to simply enjoy his time on the programme, reports the Mirror.
She queried guest Sian Welby on whether Paul should aspire to greater heights, asking: “Do you think he needs to set the bar a little higher for himself?”
Radio presenter Sian suggested that a surge in scores might ignite Paul’s competitive drive.
She commented: “I think it’ll change if he starts getting higher scores, that competitiveness will kick in. He’s a footballer! He’ll get that energy of wanting to win.”
Matt, however, appeared unsatisfied with Sian’s optimism.
He bluntly countered: “I just don’t think he’s going to be getting much higher scores, I mean come on.”
Proclaiming his lack of faith in Paul’s improvement, he continued: “I’m going to put some money on it, I do know. I think that’s about as good as it’s going to get!”
Still, Will Njobvu held a more positive view, convinced that Paul could surprise people.
Nevertheless, Matt scoffed at the idea, laughing and stating firmly: “Absolutely not.”
Despite his pointed criticism towards Paul, Matt speculated that another contestant might ultimately be the one to face departure first.
The chat swiftly turned to Toyah Wilcox, who is currently bottom of the leaderboard with a score of 12.
Matt admitted: “I’m not confident, I think Toyah shouldn;t cancel her December holiday, that’s how I feel.”
Sian scolded him for his harsh remark, while Fleur was left stunned, responding: “Savage!”
Will suggested that she might be an underdog and could potentially make it close to the finals.
Matt further commented: “I think she’s at risk this week, if she doesn’t do really well she could potentially be going.”
Strictly Come Dancing continues this Saturday on BBC One from 6:15pm and Strictly: It Takes Two airs weeknights on BBC Two from 6pm
