A goal seconds into his European debut has helped win over the Rangers fans – but Nedim Bajrami appeared to be keen to reciprocate the feeling in Malmo.
The Albanian was the stand-out performer for Rangers as they got their Europa League campaign off to the perfect start with a in over the Swedish champions away from Ibrox. Bajrami latched on to the rebound after Cyriel Dessers struck the post to open the scoring inside the opening seconds – before sub Ross McCausland came off the bench to ensure the first three points of the revamped league phase.
And it was after the second half strike by the Northern Ireland international that the 25-year-old appeared to conduct the celebration. As the 21-year-old wheeled away, Bajrami caught him before he reached the edge of the box. He pointed McCausland towards the away end to enjoy the goal with the travelling support – who were exploding in celebration.
While the TV cameras missed the moment, eagle-eyed punters have lapped up the gesture from the summer recruit. One said on X: “Bajrami sending the troops over the fans. Love that.”
Another chimed in: “Thank god he did because I don’t think I could have handled the fact that the away end exploded like that and nobody ran over to it!” One simply said: ‘Beautiful viewing.”
