AUSTIN, Texas — An Austin Powerball winner has claimed their $2 million prize.
On April 10, a winning $2 million Quick Pick Power Play ticket was purchased in Austin at a C Mart located at 7007 Village Center Drive.
Under lottery rules, a ticket holder would have to forfeit any claim to a prize for a draw game after the expiration of the 180th day following the draw date.
That means the winner had to come forward by Oct. 7, otherwise, they wouldn’t have been eligible to receive the reward. Luckily, the ticket was claimed just 12 days before the deadline and the winner chose to stay anonymous.
What happens if you don’t claim the prize?
According to the Texas Lottery Commission, had the ticket not been claimed by the deadline, the prize money would have gone back into Texas programs.
Some of the programs that are beneficiaries of the Texas Lottery include the Foundation School Fund and the Fund for Veterans’ Assistance.
“We‘re very happy this Austin Powerball player realized they had the winning ticket and claimed their prize in time,” said Ryan Mindell, executive director of the Texas Lottery. “It’s always a good idea to check and recheck your Texas Lottery tickets to ensure you don’t miss out on a prize you may have won.”
