ITV has reportedly axed two shows – the celebrity song contest Britain Get Singing and the Saturday Night Takeaway gameshow spin-off Ring My Bell.
TV Zone reports that the pilot episode of Ring My Bell may never be broadcast. The show was anticipated to be a big hit as it would have mirrored the original segment in Saturday Night Takeaway, with producers “hacking” into audience members’ doorbell cameras across the nation.
A variety of games were planned, including fans racing to be the first person to reach doors, or guessing what happens next in a clip. The concept is already proven, having been a massive success on Ant and Dec’s show – but it is now reportedly a victim of a brutal revamp.
Likewise, viewers will be heartbroken to discover that Britain Get Singing is also reportedly cancelled, despite being considered a Christmas Eve staple over the past few years. Last year, Roman Kemp hosted the action-packed celebrity event, with stars from Good Morning Britain, Love Island, Coronation Street, The Masked Singer, and EastEnders all competing against each other in a spectacular sing-off.
The Coronation Street team, which included Claire Sweeney and Lisa George, was declared the overall winner. However, EastEnders stars such as Emma Barton and Sid Owen gave them a run for their money with their rendition of ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’, reports the Express.
Kate Garraway, Charlotte Hawkins, Laura Tobin, Alex Beresford, and Dr Amir Khan were the representatives of GMB on last year’s show. In the meantime, all groups had to impress a panel of meticulous judges – Jonathan Ross from The Masked Singer, Will. i.am from Blackeyed Peas, Alesha Dixon from Britain’s Got Talent, and Adam Lambert from Queen.
Corrie secured the win in 2023, but it was Loose Women who took home the trophy in the 2022 edition of the show with their performance of Bridge Over Troubled Water.
Yet, there might still be a glimmer of hope for the show, as TV Zone has reported that the possibility for the format to make a comeback in the future hasn’t been completely ruled out.
The two cancelled programmes join the ITV quiz show Tenable, which also faced the chop earlier this month.
The show, initially hosted by Harry Potter’s Warwick Davis and later Sally Lindsay was suddenly pulled off air despite having a backlog of episodes reportedly ready to be aired.
The show’s Twitter page has also mysteriously vanished, with a message appearing for those who try to access it reading: “Account suspended. X suspends accounts which violate the X Rules.”
An ITV spokesperson confirmed: “Tenable has been a much loved ITV game show since it launched in 2006. Whilst there are no brand new episodes currently planned, fans of the show can still watch over on ITVX.”
