A woman was left stunned after discovering the unusual name her friend intends to give her newborn son. She detailed how she attended a gender reveal party that also included a surprise name reveal. But the guests were taken aback when they saw the chosen name displayed on a cake.
Sharing her experience on Reddit, she said: “My friend recently had a gender reveal/baby shower/baby name reveal party. It was an enormous event filled with the typical gimmicky baby things.
“After the gender was revealed at a garden party we were moved to a blue room filled with everything blue. She had a huge table laid out with the typical ‘it’s a boy’ things and a burner cake (burn the top of the cake to reveal something underneath).”
The expectant mum burnt off the top layer of icing to reveal her son’s name – Tihrys. While some guests were puzzled, others assumed the ‘strange’ name was a spelling mistake and questioned her about it. The woman continued: “Everyone’s reaction was rather comical, lots of groans and confused muttering from the elder guests.
“The rest of the party was really uncomfortable and weird for the expecting parents as everyone was coming up to apologise for the baker’s terrible spelling/typo. My friend laughed it off but I could tell she was offended by it. She’d been bragging how she has the ‘perfect, unique name that no other child will have’. Yeah, probably because no child would want it.”
One user commented on her post: “These people can’t understand that having a name that no other kid will have isn’t a good thing.” Another added: “I couldn’t be happier that she decided to reveal the name at this party… hopefully this keeps her from naming her baby a name that is really unpronounceable. The universe wins this one.” A third user chimed in: “I am not a native speaker and can’t figure out how to pronounce that. Tie-rys? At first it kind of reminded me of the French name ‘Thierry’ with a silent ‘s’.”
