Grinning Ally McCoist was serenaded by Newcastle United fans to mark his birthday – and he had a Celtic gag ready to go after the sing-song.

The Rangers legend has become a firm fan favourite south of the border for his antics on talkSPORT and on commentary duties – and the Geordie faithful were all too happy to mark a big occasion for McCoist before their English Premier League clash with Manchester City. The Toon Army were packed into a bar outside of St James’ Park with the former Scotland star and commentary pal Darren Fletcher in the gantry.

McCoist turned 62 on Tuesday – and the tannoy urged all the punters to chip in with the well wishes for the pundit. After the moment McCoist joked: “Thank you very much guys. That was greatly appreciated. However, there were two Celtic supporters up there not singing. That was poor, we will need to get them out guys.”
