Lyon bagged a huge confidence boosting three points in the FIFTH minute of added time ahead of their trip to Rangers.
The French giants got a blessing this week – just seven days on from suffering on the other end of a last gasp effort AGAINST them – as they backed up their Europa League matchday one win over Olympiacos with a valuable league victory. It’s been a mixed bag start for the Light Blues’ Euro rivals so far this term with Malick Fofana handing them just a SECOND win in six outings in Ligue 1 so far after coming from a goal behind to record a 2-1 over Toulouse on the road.
Like Rangers, they will go into the Thursday night battle under the lights at Ibrox full of confidence after getting over the line. Philippe Clement and his troops made it four clean sheets on the trot as they followed up their win in Malmo with a narrow victory over Hibs on their return to Ibrox.
Tom Lawrence’s first half stunner was enough to bag all three points against Hibs in Govan with Jack Butland saving a penalty for the home side to make it four wins on the bounce. It means the Light Blues claw the gap back to five points between themselves and perfect Celtic and Aberdeen at the top of the Premiership standings after six games. French outfit Lyon arrive in Glasgow next midweek before St Johnstone – fresh off the back of a 6-0 hammering by Brendan Rodgers’ men – make the trip to Ibrox for a Sunday 8pm kick-off under the lights.
Speaking after the win over Hibs, Clement said: “The performance was not incredible, but that’s difficult playing that early after a European game away. The recovery time was much less. Some leagues look at giving teams more recovery time. I saw less freshness in the players than I have in the last couple of weeks. That’s normal.”
