It’s fair to say that the cast of I Know What You Did Last Summer have cemented themselves into the minds of millennials everywhere thanks to the release of the seriously scary slasher nearly 30 years ago.
The horror movie hit the big screen in 1997, introducing us to a star-studded cast including, , , and an unforgettable cameo by the Big Bang Theory’s Johnny Galecki.
It followed a group of high school students in a small town who seemingly killed a mystery man during a raucous evening, before attempting to cover it up and move on with their lives.
Of course, it wasn’t quite that simple and they found themselves stalked by a hook-wielding killer who was hellbent on revenge on the one-year anniversary of the attack – with an equally terrifying sequel released the following year.
This week, it was announced that Freddie will be reprising his role as Ray Bronson once again for a follow-up, while Jennifer is still said to be in negotiations to return to the fold as Julie James.
Despite almost three decades passing since we were first introduced to the gang, they have barely aged a second since the premiere and could basically just go back to the beginning and play their teenage characters once again.
Freddie Prinze Jr – 48
Freddie shot straight to superstardom with his breakthrough role in I Know What You Did Last Summer, before impressing in the sequel.
He swapped slashers for rom-coms and did nothing to deter his reputation as a Hollywood heartthrob with subsequent roles in She’s All That, Down To You, Head Over Heels and Summer Catch.
The Scooby-Doo legend also landed his very own TV series, titled Freddie, while also popping up in Bones, Boston Legal, Star Wars Rebel and festive Netflix film, Christmas With You, in 2022.
Of course, the scare-fest will always hold a special place in Freddie’s heart as that is where he first met Sarah Michelle Gellar, who he went on to marry in 2002 – they share children Charlotte and Rocky together, and are truly couple goals.
Sarah Michelle Gellar – 47
After being killed by the creepy killer in the first instalment, Sarah continued to dip her toe into the horror industry, popping up as Cici Cooper in Scream 2 the same year.
If that wasn’t enough, she appeared in The Grudge and The Grudge 2, while also battling supernatural beings in Buffy the Vampire Slayer for seven seasons.
She also shared the screen with husband Freddie in the Scooby-Doo franchise, and reunited with castmate Ryan Phillippe for Cruel Intentions in 1999.
Ryan Phillippe – 50
As well as a role in One Life to Live, I Know What You Did Last Summer made Ryan a household name and he continued his efforts in Hollywood with roles as complicated heartthrob Sebastian Valmont in Cruel Intentions – beside ex-wife Reese Witherspoon – Gosford Park, Crash and Catch Hell.
He also carved out a career in TV thanks to appearances in Secrets and Lies, Shooter, Damages, Big Sky and that iconic cameo in Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Ryan, who shares children Ava and Deacon with Reese, recently celebrated his milestone 50th birthday earlier this month and has shared a glimpse into how he is enjoying his days.
Taking to Instagram, he delighted fans by giving an insight into his gardening efforts – although his followers were much more interested his lack of clothing while tending to his hibiscus…
Jennifer Love Hewitt – 45
Jennifer was a big name in Hollywood before I Know What You Did Last Summer, due to small screen projects including Shaky Ground, McKenna, Party of Five and Kids Incorporated, but the horror flick was among her breakout roles in cinema.
She somehow managed to survive the original film and the sequel, alongside Freddie and co-star Brandy – it is currently not clear whether she will be returning as Julie in the upcoming sequel.
Her other TV roles include Ghost Whisperer, Criminal Minds, 9-1-1, and the Client List, while she also commanded the screen in If Only, the Tuxedo, the Garfield movie and Tropic Thunder.
Could she get back to her horror roots?
Another famous face who could find herself going up against the hook-handed killer is Brandy, who played Karla in the 1998 offering.
Speaking about the upcoming slasher in a chat with the Hollywood Reporter, she said: ‘I need them to give me a call because I survived in that movie!
‘I came out in the end, bloodied up, ready to go. I did not die in that film!
‘Jennifer, Freddie, hit me up!’
Someone get her on the phone, immediately!
