Kel Mitchell has recalled his experiences with a real life exorcism as demons left his body.
The 90s Nickelodeon star is best known for appearing in the likes of Kenan and Kel and Good Burger with Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson.
However, the 45-year-old actor’s life took a very different turn in 2019 when he started a new career as a youth pastor.
He recalled a time when he and a group of cast mates on a film met an evangelist who prayed over them.
Appearing on the Club Shay Shay podcast earlier this year, he claimed he saw others be exorcised and ‘spitting up’.
The evangelist urged him to forgive people in his life and say their names out loud, which led to Kel – who was recently divorced at the time – to bring up his ex.
‘So I’ve said my ex’s name out loud, and forgave her. And you know, let go of that anger forever,’ he revealed, saying he was a victim of infidelity.
The woman then made the bold claim that Kel’s former flame had put a ‘hex’ on him.
He was told to start saying ‘the blood of Jesus’, and he described the powerful moment as his introduction into the spiritual realm.
‘I’m spitting up. And within that process, getting reconnected to the Lord in a very spiritual way in this moment,’ he said. ‘What is happening within this process, demons started like literally speaking out their name, I’m saying their names out loud.
‘They’re coming out of my body… each one is saying who they are. So, imagine I’m watching this as this is happening to me.’
Kel said he was ‘warring in the spirit’ for an hour, and he insisted now no one can tell him that God doesn’t exist.
He described that moment as a ‘rebirth’ in his life, as he stopped drinking and clubbing, and became celibate while learning how to pray.
As the years went on, he found himself called to work at a church before becoming a youth pastor, while his faith has helped him in his day to day life.
As well as the death of a childhood friend, Kel also leaned on his faith for support with mental health struggles, as well as marriage challenges and life in the spotlight.
Kel reunited with co-star Kenan on last year’s Good Burger sequel, after their relationship previously went south and saw them forging separate careers.
‘It was more of a separation that grew into the traditional terms of what a falling out is, which is not a lot of communication,’ Kenan told Hoda Kotb in November 2023.
‘Originally, it was just us looking for our own individualism – basically, as adults – taking a breather from being a duo.
‘We both came into the game as individuals, we were placed together because we worked so well together. It was just a journey of being adults. Time passes and more time passes and it just became ridiculous.’
Kenan conceded that neither could remember what exactly caused the trouble, but they got back into their groove immediately during a phone call, and rekindled their friendship.
