A celebrated Lanarkshire racing stable which has produced a Scottish record of nearly 1000 winners is up for sale.
Belstane racing stables in Carluke is described as “Scotland’s best-known horse racing establishment” and “an outstanding equestrian property”.
It is on the market for offers over £750,000 for the 18 acres of land including its farmhouse, staff accommodation block and agricultural facilities.
Belstane has stables for 127 horses plus indoor and outdoor gallops and riding arenas; as well as two covered motorised horse exercisers with a combined 16 spaces.
It has more than five hectares of land, noted as “suitable for grazing or mowing”, with the site including sand gallops, two timber field shelters, a 20x40m outdoor arena and a 54×17.8m open arena.
The sale includes the four-bedroomed farmhouse, which includes a reception room, kitchen, utility room and office; and the staff accommodation with six double bedrooms across two wings, as well as a sitting room, kitchens, bathroom and shower room, office, reception plus store and boot rooms.
Belstane’s “extensive range of high-quality equestrian and agricultural buildings” also includes the stables, tack rooms, various stores and sheds plus a workshop.
The sale is being handled by independent property consultancy Galbraith, which specialises in rural estates including farms and woodland across Scotland and the north of England.
Company representative Alistair Christie called the Carluke location “highly convenient” within the central belt, and said: “This is a superb opportunity to acquire a celebrated equestrian property with excellent facilities and staff accommodation.
“The purchaser would be well positioned to continue a similar equestrian enterprise, and there is also an attractive farmhouse as the principal residence.”
He added: “This is Scotland’s best-known horse racing establishment and we are delighted to be handling the sale.”
