BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The city of Bluefield has been one of the hardest hit areas in WVVA’s viewing area. Bluefield City Manager, Cecil Marson says the whole city was without power at the peak of the storm.

Marson says power is slowly coming back on for residents and 70% of residents had power at last check. Marson says it is likely that pockets of neighborhoods are still without power but he urges people to be patient while crews work to fix outages.

Marson reminds people that are cleaning up their property from trees that residents can dump debris at the organic dump located at the back of Bluefield City Park from 8:30 am to 3 pm.

He’s also reminding people the Bluefield Fit and Rec Center is open from 5 am to 8 pm for those needing to take a shower or charge their phones.

“We’ve probably got ten to fifteen thousand historic trees that are down in the city. We’re still at about 70% power so we are getting there,” said Marson. “It’s not fast enough but we are doing the best we can to get folks back to where they need to be.”

Marson is urging residents to fill out a damage survey. That survey along with other resources can be found here.
