Sport-mad Dunblane teenager Jamie Oldham really put his credentials – and fitness – to the test for a special fundraising effort over the weekend.

Jamie took on the challenge of completing a near-triple marathon distance of 75 miles in a single day on Saturday while taking part in three different sports.

The sponsored event was part of his local BB’s ‘Malawi 2025’ group, which will see them head to the village of Likhubula in the East African nation, with whom Dunblane has enjoyed a near two-decade long relationship.

The weekend fundraiser took place at Dunblane Sports Club, with Jamie alternating between rowing machine, the exercise bike and the tennis courts.

He began his effort at 7am and eventually completed the challenge at 9pm, having burned 9,000 calories in the process.

Jamie was joined for moral support by transatlantic rower Elaine Hopley and by tennis coach Sandy Fleming, who was his rally partner, with the distances recorded by the machines and his own fitness watch.

The BB group is hoping to raise £21,000 in total with their individual sponsorship efforts to ensure everyone who was selected for the trip team can travel regardless of their means to pay for such an expensive journey.

The partnership with Likhubula has seen small-scale, sustainable projects funded – aimed at improving the lives of those living there.

For the full month of October, 25 Junior Section in Dunblane are going to be taking on cycling challenges to raise funds for fertiliser and food aid in Likhubula over our winter months.

The fundraising continues apace and this weekend the boys and their parents and officers will be hosting a Coffee Morning in Dunblane Cathedral Hall from 9.30am to 12 noon, followed on Sunday by a Soup & Sweet Lunch in the same venue from 11.45am.
