Aiden McGeady has highlighted the key difference in Celtic from last season to this one as they continue to blow teams away.
The Scottish champions made it six wins from six at the weekend in the Scottish Premiership as they hammered St Johnstone 6-0 in Perth as they get ready for a big Champions League test against Borussia Dortmund. A lot of expectation has been placed on Brendan Rodgers and his troops to compete and show they are capable at Europe’s top table and they smashed Slovan Bratislava 5-1 in their opening fixture with a much tougher test coming up as they look for a big result in the backyard of the German giants.
Former Celtic winger McGeady has been very impressed with his both club both on and off the park in terms of performances and they recruitment drive that took place over the summer. He reckons on current form the Hoops have NOTHING to worry about domestically due to the style and confidence they are playing with. It is night and day from last season with the slow pace and build-up. The ex-Republic of Ireland cap wouldn’t go as far as to say the league is over already – but believes Celtic will prove ‘very difficult’ for anboyd to live with on current form.
He told the Scottish Football Podcast: “I think you are running out of superlatives for Celtic at the minute. They are playing with such confidence and the additions that they made before the end of the transfer window have only strengthened their squad. Having a fantastic result in Europe to kick off that Champions League campaign. This season everything has been levelled at Brendan Rodgers and his team to translate that domestic form into Europe.
“Just now in the league I think Celtic have nothing to worry about. That can obviously change, but Celtic are looking so strong, playing with such pace and passing forward quickly. It is so different from last season when there was a lot of – not complaints but things levelled at the team about the pace of play and how slow the build up was – just now we are not seeing that at all.
“It is very, very quick. When they lose the ball they are very quick to get the ball back with the forward players they have got and when they play in possession they look like they are going to sweep everyone away at the minute.
“I just think Celtic at the minute are playing with such confidence, the forward players are all on form and they have great players to come off the bench as well. It is looking like the league – I am not saying already done – we are only 6/7 games in but it looks very difficult for anybody to live with them at the minute.”
