As winter approaches, bringing cold and damp conditions along with soaring energy prices, drying clothes has become a serious concern in many homes.

With the cost of living crisis worsening and energy bills on the rise, the utlisation of tumble dryers or high heating to quickly dry garments is no longer a viable option for those watching their expenses. The struggle is indeed troublesome: finding a way to dry laundry without it smelling musty or damp. Certainly, no one wants to don garments that emit a whiff of mildew.

TikTok’s cleaning guru Ann Russell may just have the answer everyone is looking for with her economical solution. Ann, known for her straightforward methods, has gathered an enormous fanbase, proven by a follower who sought her wisdom for a particularly pungent problem.

In her popular advice clip, Ann recommends “neatly” folding clothes and ensuring they aren’t “not too thick” when placed near a drying fan, reports the Mirror.

Ann describes her method, saying: “Everything is folded neatly and the reason is when the fan goes up, the air goes through, it needs to be able to move, evaporate the water off. If it’s too thick or clumpy it won’t get rid of the water and then it will smell.”

Her sage laundry advice has captured the attention of online users, with the original post amassing almost 250,000 views and countless expressions of gratitude. Adding to the conversation, a follower commented on the video, offering their own useful suggestion: “What I find helps is turning them over after a few hours so the air can circulate to areas it may not reach!”

Another user suggested: “Putting stuff on hangers seems to help and spacing them out hanging them on door frames.”

For those struggling with drying bulkier items, a third user advised: “I’ve found with towels I just hang them over the doors to dry and then within a day or so they are dry and I have a second airer that I use to space out.”
