Outlander actor Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser on the popular historical fantasy series, offered a sweet response to his co-star Caitriona Balfe after she bid an emotional farewell.
It comes as the Claire Fraser actress revealed to fans that the cast of Outlander had filmed their final scenes for the eighth season of the Starz show, which should air sometime in 2025.
The stars recently celebrated filming 100 episodes of the show, which is based on Diana Gabaldon’s book series of the same name.
Fans have been promised a tear-jerking but ultimately happy finale to the show when season eight comes to an end, but at the moment they’re looking forward to seeing the second part of season 7, which is just around the corner.
Taking to Instagram, leading lady Caitriona shared a poignant with her many fans after over a decade of playing Claire Fraser.
In view of her two million followers, she posted several pictures of the cast holding a film slate that read: “It’s a wrap!”
In the accompanying caption, Caitriona wrote: “‘Nothing is lost, Sassenach, only changed.’
“Today marks the final day of filming on the final season of #Outlander. Words cannot express the gratitude owed to each and every hard-working cast and crew member who brought this incredible series to life and every single fan who supports it with passion, creativity, and dedication.
“Outlander really is more than just a show, it’s a family, and while filming might be ending, there’s so much more to this journey that’s just beginning.
“Sláinte! (PS: our eagle-eyed fans might notice some of the clapboards include what our cast members want to take from set. What would YOU steal?),” she added good-naturedly. (sic)
Taking the opportunity to congratulate his co-star, Sam shared a sweet message with his on-screen love interest in the comments section, which simply read: “What a journey… Thank you x.” (sic)
Sam also shared a series of photos from their time filming together on his own Instagram page, telling his 4.3 million followers: “11 Years. 8 seasons. 101 Episodes @outlander_starz. What a journey.
“So many memories, incredible people I have been fortunate to work with and now can call friends. So many people to thank.
“Especially JAMMF himself, herself @diana_gabaldon , @starz @sptv , my brilliant partner in crime @caitrionabalfe , cast, crew, the fans and to Scotland!! Dinnae fash Sassenachs, plenty more to look forward to….” (sic)
In response, Starz’s official Instagram account for Outlander commented: “Outlander has meant so much to so many, in no small part due to you.
“Thanks for being such an inspiring leading man, a joy to all of us, and for embodying our favorite character in a way no one else could.” (sic)
Following the closure of Lionsgate+ in the UK, new episodes of Outlander will be available on Starz and to stream on Prime Video channel MGM+ from Sunday, November 22. You must be an Amazon Prime member before you can sign up for MGM+.
