During Tuesday’s instalment of BBC Breakfast, presenters Jon Kay and Sarah Campbell discussed the recent developments at the National Grid.

They revealed to viewers that the system’s operation has been transferred into public hands. In a live segment from the control centre, their colleague Justin Rowlatt provided further details about the changes.

He explained: “This is quite unusual to be given permission to come into this room. You come through an airlock, the location is top secret, and it is bombproof.

“This place is a bit of critical national infrastructure because it runs the entire electricity system for the UK.”

However, eagle-eyed viewers quickly spotted a gaffe by the broadcaster when the supposedly “secret” location was inadvertently revealed on-screen, reports the Express.

One viewer tweeted: “‘The location is top secret’ Is it though? #BBCBreakfast”

Another remarked: “Top secret location…Live in Wokingham”.

A third viewer pointed out: “Funny how BBC Breakfast says they are at a top-secret location yet it says live from Wokingham at the top of my screen.”

And another quipped: “Secret location [wink emoji]”

Elsewhere in the programme, Jon and sports reporter John Watson had a light-hearted exchange about their singing abilities.

After John aired a clip where England cricket captain Heather Knight talked about a singalong with Nat Sciver while overseas, he seemed inspired by the idea.

He remarked: “I think I’d be singing if I was leaving this weather behind, wouldn’t you?”

Jon Kay didn’t seem too keen on the idea as he responded: “Please don’t John, please don’t!”

His colleague appeared downhearted and retorted: “Come on, can’t I? Please come on!”

As the broadcast returned to Sarah and Jon, he revealed that Nina Warhurst has been trying organising a team karaoke night.

Sarah was curious about Jon’s favourite karaoke choice to which he answered: “No, no phones allowed for that particular performance I think!”

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
