Jon Kay couldn’t help but show his dismay at co-presenter John Watson on Tuesday morning after the BBC Breakfast star suggested an unusual idea.

While delivering the latest sports news to viewers, John Watson reflected on an earlier segment featuring a recorded interview with England cricket captain Heather Knight, who enjoyed a duet with teammate Nat Sciver, performing Summer Nights.

Upon watching the clip, John remarked: “I think I’d be singing if I was leaving this weather behind, wouldn’t you?”

Promptly intervening, Jon Kay responded with a humorous rebuff: “Please don’t John, please don’t!” Looking jokingly disheartened, his co-star replied: “Come on, can’t I? Please come on!”

Meanwhile, it appears the presenters may yet unleash their tunes off-air in the future, reports the Express.

Jon followed up by mentioning: “Nina (Warhurst) has been talking about organising a karaoke night, so maybe your time has come?”

With John humorously stating he would take the cue from Jon, laughter ensued in the studio.

Eagerly joining the banter, John exclaimed: “Let’s do it together!” Sarah Campbell then prodded him for details on his karaoke song of choice.

Although reluctant to divulge, he amusingly stated: “No, no phones allowed for that particular performance I think!”

Jon swiftly changed the topic of conversation as Sarah continued to chuckle.

Sarah has stepped in to co-present BBC Breakfast with Jon throughout the week due to the absence of his usual on-screen partner.

BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent, known for her regular appearances on the famous red sofa from Monday to Wednesday, has been notably absent this week, leaving viewers in the dark as the station hasn’t provided a reason for her absence.

Although Sally’s disappearance is not entirely out of the ordinary, she last took time off the show for a holiday last month.

The shake-up continued with audiences last Saturday who saw Nina Warhurst co-hosting alongside Charlie Stayt instead of Naga Munchetty.

In an adorable moment last month, Nina’s youngest child made a guest appearance on-air, instantly winning over the public.

Sharing a light-hearted moment, she found her son less than enthralled with her monologue, as she commented: “He’s yawning, sorry I do talk a lot don’t I?”

His agreeing nod prompted laughter from Nina and brought a candid response from Naga, who teased: “You said it!”

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
