AUSTIN, Texas — Police say the driver of a vehicle that hit and killed a pedestrian in East Austin last month left the scene without stopping or calling 911.

Around 9:32 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, Austin police responded to a crash where two vehicles hit a pedestrian in the 4600 block of E. Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.

According to the Austin Police Department, a pedestrian was crossing midblock and was struck by a white SUV, followed by another vehicle. The pedestrian, identified as 28-year-old Kameron Hartman, was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the white SUV remained on the scene, was not injured and is cooperating with the investigation, APD said. The driver of the second vehicle fled the scene.

The incident is being investigated as Austin’s 66 fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 71 deaths. On the date of this crash in 2023, 67 fatal crashes resulted in 70 deaths.
