Tonight’s The Great British Bake Off is set for one of its most eventful evenings in its 15-year history during biscuit week – with one baker walking out, another fainting and a third collapsing dramatically. Amid these extraordinary moments, one contestant exits the stage, while another suddenly faints, and a third crumples to the ground mid-judging of their showstoppers.

The astonishing scenes prompt a disbelieving response from judge Paul Hollywood who exclaims, “What the hell is going on? ” whereas his fellow judge Prue Leith voices concern by asking the latest casualty, “Are you all right? ”

The other contestants are visibly unnerved yet can’t help but laugh, marked by Andy’s comment: “They’re dropping like bloody flies! ” This week sees 31 year old midwife Illyin, who had impressed with a Hollywood handshake in last week’s cake week, falter when she begins to swoon, prompting urgent calls for medical assistance. Medics swoop in and place her in recovery position as she murmurs about feeling dizzy.

All this follows a less than stellar performance in the signature challenge where Illyin, whose Viennese sandwiches received harsh critique, describes the feedback as “gutting” and acknowledges her struggle with biscuits.

Illiyin, still feeling “woozy”, exits the tent for additional medical care and misses the judging of her showstopper, leading to Noel Fielding stepping in. He humorously admits to the high stress levels, quipping: “I’ve had nightmares about this.”

This follows another baker’s dramatic exit during the technical challenge, who simply declared: “I’ve had enough. I’m done.”, reports the Mirror.

Presenter Alison Hammond expresses her sympathy, consoling the departing contestant with: “You tried man. You tried.” The drama of biscuit week will unfold for viewers as the show airs tonight on Channel 4 at 8pm.
