I may be a tad behind the curve, but a Marks and Spencer coffee trick was all the rage on social media this past summer. As with any viral TikTok, you’ll know that items often sell out – making it difficult for the rest of us to give it a go.
So, for International Coffee Day (October 1), I decided to see if I could gather my ingredients to whip up the viral M&S coffee beverage, which is supposed to taste just like a Kinder Bueno. I’m a big fan of this chocolate bar, with its creamy hazelnut, smooth chocolate and crispy wafer, so concocting a drink with these flavours sounds like bliss in a glass to me.
I still spot videos surfacing on TikTok demonstrating how to create it – and it couldn’t be simpler. You only require three ingredients, all of which can be sourced from M&S. First up, you need the Vanilla and White Chocolate Milkshake, Iced Coffee Latte and the Sugar Free Hazelnut Syrup.
Despite only needing three ingredients, it transpired that I had to visit four different M&S Simply Food’s before I located all the ingredients – as at least one item was sold out in each store. In fact, the large bottle of the Iced Coffee Latte was unavailable in all the stores, but I noticed they had smaller versions near where all the sandwiches are – jackpot!
As for the recipe, it couldn’t be easier. Fill a glass with ice – and the general agreement seems to be to fill the glass half full with the Iced Coffee Latte, top it off with the Milkshake, and then add a dash of the hazelnut syrup.
I had very high hopes for this concoction, especially after reading online testimonials where one person admitted they were “obsessed” with it, another lauded it as “divine” – and yet another added that it “tasted EXACTLY like a Kinder Bueno”. Armed with all the necessary ingredients after a dedicated search, I was eager to give it a go.
And truth be told, I was thoroughly impressed – it genuinely does taste just like a Kinder Bueno. It was scrumptious, although I would caution about using too much hazelnut syrup. Given its sweetness, it’s easy to overdo it and overwhelm the drink’s flavour.
While some people suggest adding M&S’s Hazelnut Spread inside the glass for an extra kick, in my opinion, it’s not essential. But would I recommend giving this recipe a whirl? Absolutely – it gets a solid 10/10 from me.
