An 18-year-old man has been charged in connection with a horror road crash in Stirling that killed two teenagers.

Emergency services raced to the collision involving a car and an HGV on the A91 between the Bannockburn Interchange and the Greencornhills Roundabout on Sunday, March 17. Crews attended and two young males were tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

They were later named by police as Jayden McConnell, 17, and Kyle Marshall, 19, who were rear-seat passengers in the car involved in the fatal crash. The driver of the vehicle was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

At the time, medics described his condition as critical. A 17-year-old female, who was the front seat passenger, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment and later released.

The 29-year-old male driver of the HGV was not injured following the crash. Officers investigating the incident have confirmed an 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Meanwhile, Kyle’s family previously released a heartbreaking statement as they paid tribute to the late teenager.

The statement, which was released through Police Scotland, reads: “Kyle leaves behind his devastated mum Jenny and dad Gary, younger brother Hayden and sister Alix, his grans Janet, Eileen and Joyce, and girlfriend Lucy. He will be greatly missed by them and all his extended family, as well as his many friends and work colleagues.

“The family wish to thank everyone for their kind messages of condolence, and also want to thank all the emergency service staff involved in the aftermath of this dreadful accident.”

Other tributes poured in for the boys on social media. Kyle’s heartbroken girlfriend changed her profile picture on Facebook to an image of the pair together.

Kaelah Ryan commented: “Thinking of you Lucie. To have been given the opportunity to be good friends with such an amazing boy was such a blessing! I am here whenever you need me, I love you so so much xxx”

Erin Tasker said: “Sending so much love. Such an amazing guy.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a crash in which two people died on the A91 in Stirling. The crash, which involved a car and a HGV, happened on the A91 between the Bannockburn Interchange and the Greencornhills Roundabout on Sunday, 17 March, 2024.

“Two male passengers from the car, aged 19 and 17, died at the scene. The 18-year-old man, the driver of the car, was arrested and charged.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
