Motherwell, Wishaw and Carluke MP Pamela Nash has praised the work of Les Hoey and his Dreammaker Foundation after spending an afternoon volunteering for the charity.

Pamela joined Les after an appeal for helpers at a bucket collection at Tesco in Wishaw last week.

Les set up the foundation over 30 years ago after his daughter Shelley was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, at the age of just 12.

As a father, Les had managed to arrange for Shelley to meet her idols, Boyzone, and inspired by the joy the visit had brought her, started fundraising to do the same for other children with life-limiting conditions.

Thankfully, Shelley received a transplant and made a full recovery, and Les has gone on to arrange visits for other youngsters from celebrities such as Beyonce, Ed Sheeran, Conor McGregor, Katy Perry and the Scotland football team.

The Dreammaker Foundation also fundraises tirelessly to be able to give gifts to children in hospital.

Pamela said: “It was lovely to meet Les and hear all about his work with the Dreammaker Foundation – what he has managed to achieve over three decades is truly inspiring and I was absolutely more than happy to pitch in and help out a little with the fundraising.

“Thank you to everyone who donated and nipped over for a chat with Les and myself, it was definitely an afternoon well spent!”

Les, who was awarded an MBE in recognition of his hard work in 2013, added: “It was great to have Pamela along and helping out as the area’s new MP.

“The DreamMaker Foundation is always looking for volunteers to lend a hand, please feel free to get in touch if you have some spare time and would like to get involved.”
