As the chill of autumn sets in, everyone’s on the hunt for comforting and nourishing meals to warm their bellies.

Now is the time when hearty soups become a staple in our diets, and a woman has taken to TikTok to share an easy soup recipe that’s not only delicious, but might help with weight management too. Shai, who goes by the username turbangirlofficial, revealed that her followers have been eager to learn how to concoct this healthy dish.

During her most intensive period of weight loss, she would have the soup four to five times a week, noting its high protein content and richness in vegetables. Soups, according to Shai, are excellent for slimming down.

Her “secret” recipe, which she credits with helping her shed over 20kg (approximately three stone) quite swiftly, is no longer just hers to enjoy. Given how many people are on the lookout for simple ways to lose weight, she’s decided it’s time to reveal her method.

To rustle up this soup, Shai suggests starting with approximately 130g of chicken breast, boiling it until it’s tender enough to pull apart. Season the chicken generously with salt, pepper, turmeric and just a hint of saffron for marinating.

Next, she recommends frying your vegetables in a mixture of one tablespoon each of olive oil, garlic paste and ginger paste. For the veggie mix, Shai opts for an entire bag of spinach combined with a selection of mixed frozen veggies, sweetcorn, along with a diced onion and tomato.

Shai includes red lentils in her recipe, admitting that the vegetables and lentils can be tailored to taste. She then adds half a cup of oats, spring onions, two tablespoons of soy sauce, along with a selection of seasonings for extra zest.

She favours turmeric powder, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, chilli and parsley, though she suggests that the spices can be adjusted as preferred. As the chicken starts to cook, she introduces it to the mixture. Then, one cup of stock and two cups of plain water are combined into the pot. Shai advises stirring everything together and setting the Instapot accordingly.

For a 30-minute cook time on the Instapot or a simmer over low heat for 20 to 30 minutes on the stove, Shai’s instructions are simple. Any extra soup can be frozen for future use.

Shai claims each cup of her nutritious soup has approximately 215 calories and a protein count ranging from 18g to 20g. From a single preparation, she usually makes five servings.
