HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) –

NON-STICK AND ANODIZED POTS AND PANS

Can be easily cleaned with hot water, dish soap and a soft sponge or nylon scrubber. For tougher stains, create a baking soda and water paste, let it sit then wash, rinse and dry again. Avoid steel wool or abrasive pads since they can easily scratch or damage the surface.

STAINLESS STEEL PANS

Can be easily cleaned with Bar Keepers Friend™ Cleanser. Wet pan, sprinkle in Bar Keepers and scrub with scrubbing sponge or steel wool. Rinse and wash well.

BAKING SODA

Fill your dirty pan with equal parts water and vinegar. Bring the mixture to a boil, then add 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Remove from heat and let soak for up to 15 minutes. Discard the liquid down your drain, then use a sponge or scouring pad to scrub away any remaining burnt-on bits.

AUTOMATIC DISHWASHER TAB

Take a dishwasher tab from your container and rinse your dirty pan with hot water. Then, gently scrub the pan under warm water with the dishwasher tab. Scrub until all the food debris lifts, then rinse with warm water. The warm water will gradually dissolve the tab as you scrub and help the tablet keep its shape rather than crumble immediately between your fingers. The only downside to this method is that we did use two whole dishwasher tablets to clean one nasty pan.

VERY DIRTY or BURNED PAN

Fill with hot water and add one automatic dishwasher detergent pod. Bring water to a boil and then lower heat to simmer. Simmer 15 – 30 minutes. As it simmers you will see the crusty problem rise to the surface. Once most of the debris is loosened, turn off the heat and allow the pan to sit until luke warm. Dump and wash as usual.

GREASE IN PANS

Rather than trying to wash and coating your drain with grease, sprinkle in oatmeal and scrub around using your hands in disposable gloves or paper towels. Once the grease is collected, toss and wash pan as usual.
