(TMX) – Reese Witherspoon on Wednesday announced an open casting call for a teenage version of Elle Woods, the character she originated in 2001′s “Legally Blonde.”
“Our search for the high school version of Elle Woods is officially ON,” Witherspoon, 48, announced in an Instagram video shared Wednesday.
“With our friends @primevideo we’re making the casting process totally OPEN, so you can submit your auditions at the link in my bio,” she wrote in the caption. “I’m SO excited to see all your fabulous takes on everyone’s favorite Gemini vegetarian!”
The upcoming prequel series “Elle” will take place before the events of “Legally Blonde,” following Elle Woods on the journey that led her to become a lawyer known for dressing in pink.
Prime Video officially announced the upcoming series in May, and it will be produced in partnership with Hello Sunshine, Witherspoon’s media company. Witherspoon will serve as executive producer along with creator Laura Kittrell as well as Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky and Marc Platt.
“Fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do. What could be better than that?!” Witherspoon said in a statement when the series was announced.
Witherspoon announced in 2018 that she would be returning to the big screen as Elle Woods in a third feature-length “Legally Blonde” installment. The first sequel was 2003′s “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde.”
