It was high praise for the young men of Paisley and District Battalion Boys’ Brigade as Renfrewshire Provost presented their Queen’s Badge certificates.

Provost Lorraine Cameron congratulated the 20 Boys Brigade (BB) members when she presented them with the prestigious award and told them they should be “proud” of themselves.

The certificate is awarded to those who give their time and efforts to others in their own communities in Renfrewshire.

Provost Cameron also encouraged the boys to use this award as part of their CV when going forward in their career path whether to work, further education or university.

President David Love hailed the ‘Last Queen’s Men’ and celebrated with them and their families in their award.

He said: “Over 141 years many things have changed but [not the Queen’s Badge]. These recipients have undertaken a commitment to developing their interests, taken responsibility within the BB and the church, participated in skills-based training, taken part in a residential course and provided voluntary service to those outside the BB and their churches.”

Training convenor Stewart Digney told the boys they were part of a wider group who had given over 75,000 hours of voluntary service to their communities in the UK as part of the Queen’s Badge work.

That amounted to over 30 hours for each candidate, many of them undertaking much more than the hours set for them.

A spokesman for Paisley and District Battalion added: “It is heartening to see so many young men give so much to their communities and local charities.

“They will be ‘The Last Queen’s Men’. It will be all change next year to The King’s Badge.

“Some of these young men will go on to become leaders in the Brigade at a time when leaders are much required and new companies are starting up again like in Bishopton.”
