ECTOR COUNTY, Texas (Gray News) – A Texas state trooper has died days after he was struck by a vehicle while investigating a separate crash.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said 25-year-old Trooper Kevin Alexia Ramirez Vasquez was hit by a vehicle on Sept. 17 while investigating a crash on State Highway 302 in Ector County.

Vasquez was first hospitalized with serious injuries, but was then airlifted to another medical center and later died on Sept. 28.

“Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Alexis Ramirez Vasquez served this state honorably to his very last breath,” Department of Public Safety Director Steven McCraw said. “His commitment to keeping the roads safe, protecting the people of Texas and the sacrifice he made will never be forgotten.”

Vasquez, who had three siblings, joined the Texas Department of Public Safety in 2023 and was most recently stationed in Odessa. Prior to law enforcement, Vasquez served in the U.S. Army and was in the National Guard at the time of his line-of-duty death.

“I ask that you keep his family, friends and colleagues in your prayers during the difficult days ahead,” McCraw added.
