AUSTIN, Texas — A text against a student and Lake Travis High School led to an arrest more than 150 miles away.
Lake Travis ISD said police arrested and charged a 16-year-old near Houston for a terroristic threat against the school in September.
The district said a student received a text that said “ima shoot up ur school” and “n u my first target watch out.” The threat led to fear and anxiety in the school, causing significant disruptions.
Law enforcement determined the threat posed no danger to students and staff, but that a similar threat against Hudson Bend Middle School is still being investigated. Wednesday’s arrest is the second in two days, as the district has seen an increase in threats.
The district said students, staff and parents can continue to report threats and concerns to the Cavs Who Care tipline at any time. Parents are also urged to remind their children about the severe consequences of school threats.
