Ayrshire gardeners dug deep to scoop top awards at the annual Cardwell Gardenfest competition.
Gardeners from Ayr, Prestwick and Largs were among those to take home prizes which included a trophy, certificate and a £50 gift voucher.
Prestwick’s Ian Sloan took home the top prize of best overall garden while Helen Westwood, from Ayr won the nature and wildlife-friendly garden category.
Largs saw a double as the best junior gardener award went to the youngsters from the Douglas Park Project and the best newcomer award went to Elizabeth Urie.
Cardwell Gardenfest is a popular gardening contest run by Cardwell Garden Centre, near Gourock.
Gardeners were asked to submit a maximum of three photographs for each category they wanted to enter before the judges whittled them down and decided the winners.
Cardwell Garden Centre director, Kieran Gallagher, and gardening expert, George Irvine, were given the difficult task of judging this year’s competition.
Kieran said: “Some of the gardens we have seen this year were simply stunning.
“And what makes them even more amazing is the terrible weather we’ve had this summer, which certainly hasn’t been all that kind to gardeners.
“It’s heartening to see that gardening as a hobby is alive and well and there are lots of enthusiasts out there creating fabulous gardens.
“Well done to the winners and everyone who entered. It wasn’t an easy job judging the entries.”
