Viewers of the vice presidential debate were distracted by Republican candidate JD Vance’s eyeliner – or the appearance of it.

While the debate on Tuesday night wound up being on the tamer side, viewers were bewildered by whether ex-President Donald Trump’s running mate was wearing makeup around his eyes.

As Vance, 40, and Walz, 60, sparred on the stances of their bosses on issues from immigration to abortion, social media users debated the eyeliner matter.

It was not the first time that Americans have questioned whether Vance uses eyeliner, and the bright lighting on the debate stage at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City furthered the controversy.

The Ohio senator’s wife, Usha Vance, told Puck News that he sports an ‘all natural’ look and, ‘I’ve always been jealous of those lashes.’

Who won the Vance vs Walz debate?

Vance came off as polished and collected, while Walz stumbled over his words at the beginning of the debate and later made the gaffe, ‘I’ve become friends with school shooters.’

Historian Allan Lichtman, who is nicknamed the ‘Nostradamus’ of US presidential elections and last month predicted that Vice President Kamala Harris will win the 2024 race, said that Vance came off as ‘very personable’ and ‘slick’ while Walz seemed ‘looked a little bit nervous, he looked a little bit rattled’.

However, Lichtman said that ‘Walz found his voice and was very persuasive and very eloquent about reproductive freedom for women’ while he ‘couldn’t fathom’ Vance’s position, and picked Harris’ running mate as the winner.

Meanwhile, a DailyMail.com/J.L Partners poll on Friday found that among 801 likely voters, 50% said Vance won the debate versus 43% who opined Walz did.
