If there’s one downside to advent calendars, it’s that most of them end on December 24.
Yes, I know it’s meant to be a countdown and that Christmas Day is exciting enough without needing a small treat, but why not keep the fun going for another day?! One more chocolate wouldn’t really hurt… right?!
Thankfully M&S is giving the people (and by that I mean ME), exactly what they want, with an advent calendar that not only goes all the way up to December 25, but has a giant surprise behind the last door for some extra ‘festive cheer’.
If you’ve been on TikTok or Instagram lately, you might have seen the retailer’s new Chocolate Shop Advent Calendar, as the £12 product has gone just a little bit viral — and for good reason.
I’m going to go out on a limb right now and proclaim it the BEST chocolate advent calendar for Christmas 2024. It’s that good.
Still here? Don’t say I didn’t warn you…
If the big bag of chocolate buttons behind door number 25 wasn’t enough reason to buy this advent calendar, then I raise you the variety of chocolate that’s hidden inside.
Four different treats wait for you behind each door, including Marks & Spencer’s popular Mini Whips, filled with fluffy marshmallow.
You’ll also find caramel-filled Chocolate Buttons, Blong Fudge Bites, and Peanut Butter and Caramel Chunkies, as you open each day.
And the best part is, you never know what you’re going to get, unlike say, a Cadbury calendar, where each sweet is a piece of Dairy Milk. This is something a little bit different, and there will be a genuine surprise each morning.
But what’s the verdict on the chocolate itself? Well, the Whips are delightful as always, and the fudge bites are wondrously sweet, but it’s the Chunkies that are the star of the show here.
The perfect combination of salty, sweet, chewy and a little crunchy, these little chocolate morsels are heavenly — the Metro lifestyle team agreed they were more than worth buying the advent calendar for (although you could just buy an entire bag of them for £2.75 if you’d prefer).
Did I mention that on the days when you get the caramel buttons behind your door, you don’t just get one, but two?! No scrimping on the sweet stuff here.
Online shoppers have hailed the advent calendar ‘fab’, ‘a beaut’, ‘yummy’, a ‘need’, and ‘the one’. Many also claimed they would struggle to resist the temptation to start opening it before December 1.
This comes after the high street favourite recently teamed up with a famous chef to celebrate 20 years of the popular Gastropub range.
M&S has worked with Tom Kerridge to create a range of new dishes and desserts for the £15 dine-in deal, including creamy pork liver, belly and bacon pāté, two deep filled all-butter pastry pies, and Treacle Tart.
If you’re not bothered about food and would prefer something a little more glamorous to open in the run up to Christmas, then there’s always a beauty advent calendar.
Many of the ones for 2024 are already available to order, with prices starting from £100 for one that’s full of products worth well over £500.
So far, , , Sephora, , Fortnum & Mason, and have opened their waitlists – with some already live, and ready to ship.
Metro’s shopping Editor Sarah Bradbury claims the products inside are incredibly versatile, saying: ‘I’m obsessed with minis! I genuinely have items stashed from a beauty advent calendars from years ago. I also love giving little bits to friends and family as stocking fillers – it’s always so nice to see their faces light up, receiving luxury mins that are just perfect for travel, and when they head home for Christmas too.
‘And some contain full sized items too, which make great Christmas Eve Box items – that my mum loves to gift for our family.’
