Renfrew would “have lost” their game against Kilwinning Rangers last season, says Jimmy Quigley. The boss made the remark as he pointed out how far the team have progressed this term.
Renfrew drew 0-0 with the Ayrshire side to extend their unbeaten run to nine after losing their opening two games of the West of Scotland League First Division campaign.
And Quigley wants to ensure that his team keep going as he looks to continue the impressive streak. He said: “It [the unbeaten run] is down to the players. Their attitude and work ethic have been right.
“At the weekend, we lost our two centre-backs through injury, with Jojo [Gillespie] playing through the pain barrier. The problem we now have is that we have three cup games in a row.
“I said to the boys that the league table will look different as people will probably overtake us. Right now, positions don’t matter. But it is up to us to come back and continue going.”
On the upcoming cup games across the next three weeks, Quigley added: “I want to go deep in the cups. Last year, I felt we let ourselves down. I just want to win every game that is in front of us.
“One thing that will happen is there will be rotation across the next three weeks to give guys an opportunity to play.”
Elsewhere, First Division rivals Arthurlie remain at the top of the table after a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Kilbirnie Ladeside. Colin Reilly’s side stretched their run to seven games unbeaten, with the last loss coming away to Rutherglen Glencairn in August.
Andy Whiteford’s Neilston romped to a 5-0 away win against Forth Wanderers in the Second Division. The result sees the Farmer’s Boys stay on the heels of league leaders Muirkirk who are just three points ahead.
In the Third Division, leaders Thorn Athletic beat Lugar Boswell Thistle 2-0 while Glenvale made it two away wins on the bounce as they saw off Glasgow United in an impressive 5-1 victory. St Peter’s returned to winning ways in the Fourth Division as they kept a clean sheet at home against Giffnock in a 2-0 success.
